Security Officer Training and Certifications in Manitoba
The credentials that separate a professional officer from a generic guard.
01
Base credential first
Every officer starts with the Manitoba Justice security guard licence — a physical card that reflects completion of base training in the Act and regulations, criminal law, use-of-force principles, communication and de-escalation, incident-report writing, and basic emergency response. No client should accept an officer without the current physical card on shift.
02
Sector-specific certifications
Beyond the base credential, sector-specific certifications layer on: WHMIS 2015 for industrial environments; St. John Ambulance or Red Cross first aid for high-exposure postings; non-violent crisis intervention for healthcare; hot-work permit protocol for fire watch; TAPA-influenced training for cargo environments; confined-space awareness for mining and heavy industrial sites.
03
Continuing education
Security is a discipline that erodes without practice. Continuing education requirements — refresher training, sector-specific update sessions, incident post-mortem reviews — separate providers who invest in their officer base from providers who don't. Ask specifically about the continuing-education cadence during procurement.
04
Verification
Every certification should be documented at the officer level and available for client verification on request. Providers that resist producing training records are providers with something to hide.
